Taking the first step of a healing journey is not easy. It may seem as though no one can relate to what you are going through. You will need support and understanding.

If talking to someone feels overwhelming, that's normal. Many women and men find it helpful to simply begin to tell their story in a safe and confidential setting.

In general, the healing journey will involve:

  • Sharing your story
  • Identifying your values and strengths
  • Processing negative emotions
  • Releasing guilt and shame
  • Accepting your new situation
